Liudmila Chursina

Liudmila Chursina was born in Dushanbe in 1941. Very few actresses enjoyed the popularity Chursina had. Starting from the middle of the 60th she held the leading positions in the Soviet cinema.

Her portraits were in almost all periodicals, she received letters from funs from all over the Soviet Union. Chursina was the youngest actress awarded the title of People's actress of the USSR. She received the state prize of Russian Federation for starring in films "Zhuravushka" ("A Little Crane"), "Virineya", "Ugrum-reka" ("Ugryum-River"). Chursina was awarded a grand prize at the international film festival in San-Sebastian and then was offered a 3-year contract in Hollywood. Se even holds a KGB prize for a part in film "The Mercedes Man File".

Liudmila Chursina spent her childhood in Georgia and did not intend to become an actress. She was fond of physics and hard sciences and dreamt to develop aircrafts. Yet she went to Moscow to make a company to her friend obsessed about becoming an actress and entered 3 theatrical institutes. Ludmila became a student of Shchulkin theatre school and after the graduation joined the troop of the Vakhtangov Theatre. She played minor parts in some plays when made a debut in film "Kogda derevya byli bolshimi" ("When the Trees Were Tall") working with such stars of the Soviet cinema s Leonid Kuravlebv, Yuri Nikulin, Vasili Shukshin. Some supporting roles followed but the real success was a film "Donskaya povest" ("The Donn tale") by Vladimr Fetin. Chursina became overwhelmingly popular: a young, beautiful and talented actress immediately attracted attention of the public and critics. The film influenced her further career and made her highly demanded actress. Chursina played in over 50 films, her roles in "Olesya", "Opened book", "Lubov Yarovaya" and others became classic.

She now works in the theatre of the Soviet Army, is a member of 'Artistic Council' at Lenfilm studio and is a public figure. Liudmila Chursina was awarded the 4th Degree Order for the Service to the Motherland.
